Joanne Brennan BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy MISCP

Chartered Physiotherapist

Cancer Exercise and Rehabilitation Specialist

Lymphoedema Therapist

Kinesiotaping Practitioner

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1997. I began my career working as a junior physio at a large teaching hospital in Manchester. In 1999 I began working at the Christie Hospital, a large Cancer Treatment Centre in Manchester, and have worked largely in the field of Oncology since then. As a specialist therapist in this area I have been responsible for service planning, development and delivery and also contributed to the development of a number of policy documents. I have been involved in the educational development of both student and qualified physiotherapists through clinical placements and formal teaching and have written for academic textbooks.

Throughout my work in oncology, I have developed my skills to be able to provide an effective physiotherapy service for cancer patients and survivors with a whole range of physical problems, ranging from the complex, for example a dense hemiplegia in a patient with a brain tumour, to the more simple, but never the less debilitating, management of cancer related fatigue. As a Cancer Exercise Specialist I am able to prescribe structured exercise or physical activty programmes to enable and empower cancer survivors to get their life 'back on track'. I am also fully qualified in the Leduc technique of Medical Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) for the management of lymphoedema. I am trained in the use of Kinesiology Tape for clinical application.

I am based in the county of Kilkenny and provide home based physiotherapy to clients in the South Eastern Counties of Ireland.

I am a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and MLD Ireland.
